Football is one of Americans favorite pastimes. There is nothing like watching champions of the gridiron play football on a snow-covered field. This experience can be viewed and enjoyed in the fall and early winters in Wisconsin. The state is home to the world champion Green Bay Packers.
The Green Bay Packers have more championships than any other team in NFL history. They currently stand at the remarkable record of 12 Super Bowl wins. Wisconsin’s professional football team, the Green Bay Packers, have never been short when it comes to talent. Twenty One of the Green Bay Packers team and faculty have already been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The history of Wisconsin’s Green Bay Packers was born in a poorly lit editorial room in the old Green Bay Press-Gazette newspaper building. The date of inception was August 11, 1919. A dozen or so men sat in that editorial room and one about trying to figure out how to start a football team in Wisconsin. At the head of this discussion was a man by the name of Curly Lambeau. Mr. Lambeau had discussed the notion of forming a football team in Wisconsin with friend George Calhoun. After that fateful day they set forth trying to find a company to sponsor their newly founded team.
The both of them talked with Lambeau’s employer. His employer, Indian Packing Company, was a Wisconsin based wartime industry where he worked as a shipping clerk and earned a salary of $250 per month. Lambeau and Calhoun convinced his employer into putting up the initial capital for jerseys for this newly born Wisconsin football team. Not only did the Indian Packing Company purchase the jerseys but they also allowed Lambeau and Calhoun’s team to use its athletic field for the team’s practices. In many Wisconsin papers the football team’s inception was credited to the company instead of the two individuals that helped to make it a reality.
It wasn’t long before the local newspapers, along with Wisconsin residents, started to refer to the team as the “Packers.” The name has stuck with the team ever since and is adored by Wisconsin football enthusiasts both young and old. The team was so successful that by the year 1921 Lambeau was financially backed by the two reigning officials for the now defunct Indian Packing Company into obtaining a franchise in the newly formed national Pro football league.
This rich history has led Wisconsin’s natives to hold the Green Bay Packers dear to their hearts. That is why it is hard to go anywhere in Wisconsin without seeing the team’s logo, or those big foam cheese slice hats, on a Sunday afternoon when it is football season. This is one of many reasons why Wisconsin is the perfect place to visit for any Green Bay Packers fan or football enthusiasts in general. Because of Wisconsin’s such rich football history many tourists flock to Wisconsin each football season to see what all the buzz is about and once they get there they are changed forever.

When the glaciers melted some of the indentations left by the glaciers were filled with the freshwater from the melted glacier. This coupled with the springs that were uncovered when the glaciers ground into the bedrock helped to form and sustain most of the lakes in the state.
The rich history is in the form of Indian tribes that had fish the same waters that modern-day fishing enthusiasts are fishing. Tribes such as the Chippewa, Dakota, and Foxes culled Wisconsin home at one time or another and depended upon its resources to sustain their nations.
